Ceramic Cutting
What is Ceramic? The word ceramic is from the Greek work "keramic.”
Literally, keramic means “made of clay.” Traditionally, ceramic
has been used as a material primarily for pottery and tableware.
It is a non-organic material made from compounds formed between
metallic and non-metallic elemnts. It is usually brittle and
porous. However, modern developments have allowed ceramics to
become tougher, more pliable, and useful in a wider array of
fields.
New Uses of Ceramic Ceramics are now used in bullet proof vests,
cars, computers, and toys. Ceramic engines are created to
function even when temperatures rise to thousands of degrees
(centigrade). Ceramics also exhibit some characteristics of
conductors and semi-conductors.
Common Uses The most common uses for ceramic today are still
tableware, pottery, and tiles. Ceramics are also found in
improvements or repairs to dentures.
Ceramic Cutting To create precisely measured tiles, ceramic
cutting is done with high-tech tools. Diamond blades, diamond
wire saws, and diamond drill bits are used to create precisely
measured tiles. Ceramic cutting is sometimes referred to as
ceramic squaring. The high-tech tools for ceramic cutting are
expensive and usually require high maintenance. The entire
process of ceramic cutting can be very expensive, and so it is
usually undertaken by companies capable of producing great
volumes of finished products.
Inexpensive Ceramic Cutting and Shaping Some businesses are
small-scale, almost household ceramic production facilities.
These businesses do not employ the use of high-tech cutting
materials, and are most often involved in pottery or tableware.
Ceramic can be cut or shaped with equipment other than diamond
tools, but with less accuracy.
Finishing Ceramic Ceramic, once it has been shaped or cut, can
still be improved upon. The aesthetic aspect of ceramic
materials is improved by finishing ceramic. The ceramic
materials can be polished, shined, and even decorated with
paint. Since ceramic can be stained as easily as glass, it is an
ideal material for creating art pieces, or decorative tableware.
